Shelley Nunley named new South Laurel High School head volleyball coach

South Laurel High School has named Shelley Nunley as its new Head Volleyball Coach, replacing Jamie Clark who recently stepped down to accept an administrative position at Keavy Elementary.

Coach Nunley has over 10 years of combined volleyball coaching experience between the school and club programs and has served as a South Laurel assistant coach for the past 5 seasons.

A 2011 SLHS graduate, Nunley had a distinguished volleyball career as a setter, playing varsity volleyball for all four years in high school, and serving as team captain her senior season in which she was also named to the all-region tournament team.  During her four seasons, the SLHS team won the 13th region tournament three times and had an undefeated regular season in 2006.  A 2016 Western Kentucky University graduate, she was also active in club volleyball in college and high school.

She is currently a language arts teacher at SLHS and has served as top assistant coach the past two seasons at SLHS.

“Coach Nunley has the experience, knowledge, and passion to return our volleyball program to the top of the 13th region. The fact that she is an SLHS graduate is especially exciting for her and our community.  We thank Coach Clark for his leadership and dedication to our volleyball program and wish him the best in his new position.”

–Athletic Director Jep Irwin

“Coach Nunley has been an integral part of the South Laurel community not only on the court but in the classroom as well. She is team player, willing to lead, and take on many projects at SLHS. I believe that she will work tirelessly to continue the success that South Laurel volleyball has seen over the last several years. We wish Coach Clark the best on his new endeavor as the leader of Keavy Elementary.”
