Candice Williams strikes out 7 during Jackson County’s 11-0 win over Williamsburg

MCKEE — Williamsburg saw first hand Monday just how good Jackson County junior pitcher Candice Williams is.

Williams struck out seven batters while allowing only one hit during the Lady Generals 11-0 win over the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Jackson County’s bats started slow, scoring only one run in the first inning before adding two more runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Generals (1-0) added five more runs in the third inning, extending their lead to 8-0 before wrapping up the win with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Freshman Ella Sallee connected with a home run while finishing 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, and three runs scored. Freshman Lexi Brockman delivered a home run while driving in two runs and scoring twice. Emily Mays had two hits, one RBI, and two runs scored while Josie Starcher finished with a hit, an RBI, and a run scored.

Allie Wilson had Williamsburg’s (0-1) lone hit while taking the loss in the pitcher’s circle. She tossed 4 2/3 of an inning while allowing nine hits, and six earned runs and finishing with four strikeouts.
