WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County suffered its third 10-goal loss during its past seven games after falling to Somerset, 11-1, on Monday.
The Lady Colonels cut their deficit to 2-1 early in the first half before seeing the Lady Briar Jumpers scored nine unanswered goals.
The loss snapped Whitley County’s two-game win streak, and dropped the Lady Colonels’ record to 10-4 during the process.
Somerset’s Tori Robertson entered the game with 25 goals, and left scoring four in the 10-goal victory.
Her goal seven minutes I got he contest gave Somerset a 1-0 lead while Bella Gregory’s goal off a free kick by Robertson made the score, 2-0.
Autumn Sawyers’ 51st goal of the season (assist by Deserae Haynes) during the 22nd minute cut Whitley County’s deficit to 2-1, but the Lady Colonels never scored again.
The Lady Briar Jumpers answered two minutes later as Robertson added her second goal while Bella Gregory scored on a put back rebound after Robertson’s shot attempt was deflected by the keeper.
Gregory’s second goal during the 36th minute pushed Somerset’s lead to 5-1 while Isabella McKenzie’s goal gave the Lady Briar Jumpers a 6-1 lead with two minutes remaining in the first half.
Robertson’s third goal five minutes into the second half made the score, 7-1 while Gregory scored again to give Somerset a comfortable 8-1 lead during the 47th minute.Robertson’s four goal increased Somerset’s advantage to 9-1 while Gracie Burgess, and Storey Justice scored a goal apiece to put the finishing touches on the win,
Whitley County will be back in action Thursday at home against South Laurel. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
