Sheppard, who found out of the prestigious honor on Tuesday, joins three other future University of Kentucky teammates Aaron Bradshaw, Justin Edwards, and DJ Wagner, who were also named McDonald\u2019s All-Americans today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am ecstatic for Reed and his family,\u201d North Laurel coach Nate Valentine said. \u201cWhile Reed has been a team guy from Day One, I know this has been a dream of his for quite some time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBeing named a McDonald\u2019s All-American is the pinnacle for a high school basketball player,\u201d he added. \u201cI couldn\u2019t be more proud of him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheppard, who is now the career leader in points scored at North Laurel with 3,398, said it was a \u201cdream come true\u201d to become a McDonald\u2019s All-American.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNot a lot of people get the opportunity to play in the McDonald\u2019s All-American game,\u201d he said. \u201cIt means the world to me, and I can\u2019t wait to play in such a prestigious game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheppard\u2019s 3,398 points rank second all-time in the 13th Region behind former Corbin play Andrew Taylor\u2019s 3,628. Sheppard also has more than 1,100 assists, over 600 steals, and more than 900 rebounds during his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His 3,398 points already rank seventh-all time in the state while his more than 1,100 assists rank second all-time in the state behind former Harlan player Michael Jones\u2019 1,352.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
