The clock is ticking down to Friday\u2019s Class 4A state title match between Corbin, and Boyle County, and coach Tom Greer\u2019s Redhounds are ready for the game to kick-off.
The Redhounds are sitting pretty at 14-0 while Justin Haddix\u2019 Rebels at 12-2, and it\u2019s business as usual for Greer and his team.
\u201cThis week we are going to out and play for 48 minutes, and four quarters \u2014 see what happens,\u201d Greer said. It\u2019s been 40 years since Corbin has won a state championship. In \u201877, \u201890, \u201803, \u201817, and \u201818 \u2014 those were all runner-up teams.\u00a0
Is the \u201822 class, are they different,\u201d he added. \u201cAre they going to step up, and make the plays, and do what it takes to win this ballgame? I know one thing, the Redhounds will play hard Friday night. There is a lot that goes in to winning a state championship other than just showing up and be ready to play. You gotta make things happen.\u201d
The matchup has had plenty of storylines already the media due to Haddix having coached Corbin a few years back, but Greer is too focused on the game at hand to talk about what many are saying is meaningless.\u00a0
\u201cThis is about the Corbin Redhounds and the Boyle County Rebels, and nothing really more,\u201d Greer said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a 48 minute football game, and that\u2019s what it is.\u201d
\u201cReally our keys haven\u2019t changed from Week One,\u201d he added. \u201cWe\u2019ve got to be physical, and we\u2019ve got to execute our game plan. And our guys have got to make plays. We\u2019ve got to have players make plays when the opportunity arrives. And really, what we\u2019ve done the past 14 weeks, we\u2019ve got to continue for one more week.\u201d
When it comes down to it, Greer feels the game will be decided in the trenches.\u00a0
\u201cThe best offensive line and the best defensive line is going to win the football game,\u201d Greer said \u201cBoyle County and Corbin are blessed with really good skill players, but it\u2019s going to be won in the trenches.\u00a0
