The Lady Colonels punched their ticket to the Kentucky Class 2A State Championship match with a 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20 semifinal victory over Christian Academy of Louisville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whitley County took control by winning two tightly contested opening sets by identical 25-22 scores. Christian Academy of Louisville answered in the third, handing the Lady Colonels a 25-22 setback to extend the match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI just can\u2019t say enough about the toughness our girls showed this morning and stepped up to the challenge,\u201d Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. \u201cCAL is a very good team and a top team in the state every year. We executed at a high level for most of the match. Serve and serve receive was outstanding, out of system work was great too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After letting a lead slip away in the third set, Whitley County didn\u2019t allow the setback to linger. The Lady Colonels jumped in front early in the fourth and finished off the match with a 25-20 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe dropped the third set after leading most of the way,\u201d Halcomb said. \u201cOur girls maintained their solid play and jumped right out to a quick lead in the fourth set. We were able to carry that momentum and pull out the win.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victory sends Whitley County into the championship match later Saturday afternoon with an opportunity to bring home the Kentucky Class 2A State Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
