WILLIAMSBURG \u2014 To be successful in any team sport, it\u2019s always helpful to have a solid senior cast, and Whitley County has just that.
EJ Allen, Henry Bowling, Dee Parker and Kaden Powers have played huge roles in the Colonels success from past to present, and are huge reasons why they are 38-3 entering the state tournament this week. 
\u201cWe have a special group of seniors this year,\u201d Whitley County coach Jeremy Shope said. \u201cTheir love of the program, experience, and competitive nature is what leads this team.
\u201cOur senior class is special because they all want to win above anything else,\u201d he added. \u201cThe coaching staff trusts our seniors and they trust us. We are able to have tough conversations in order to do what\u2019s best for the team. Their leadership and unselfishness is a big part of our success. They have each been through the peaks and valleys of baseball which is going to help lead and guide them the rest of their lives.\u201d
Shope said each senior brings different qualities and leadership to our team.
\u201cI like to make comparisons to real life to help prepare them for life after baseball,\u201d he said. \u201cIn order to have a successful business, one must hire people that want the business to succeed above anything else. It takes a whole village to be successful. It takes consistency.  Our seniors are the first to cheer each other on but they are the first to tell someone that they are not putting the team first. That\u2019s special. \u201cThis is a highly competitive group,\u201d Shope added. \u201cEJ and Henry are fireballs who compete every day. Dee keeps things loose and loves when the lights come on. KP is our President because of his steadiness and vision. It\u2019s a perfect combination.
\u201cI\u2019m so proud of what this group has accomplished,\u201d he continued. \u201cThey\u2019ve each help take our program to new heights. This group has accomplished a lot of firsts for Whitley County Baseball.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
