WILLIAMSBURG \u2014 Powered by the long ball, South Laurel blasted three home runs while knocking off Madison Southern, 7-3, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Cardinals (5-0) received home runs from Aubrie Messer, Emma Rice and Kenzie Williams, setting the tone offensively and providing the firepower needed to stay unbeaten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAubrie Messer battled all night long in the circle and gave us seven strong innings,\u201d South Laurel coach Carlie Mink said. \u201cWe were able to make some really key defensive plays behind her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe had three really big swings tonight from Aubrie, Emmie, and Kenzie that broke our offense open,\u201d he added. \u201cWe had to find a different way to win tonight and battle back after Southern took a mid-game lead 3-1.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Laurel broke through with a run in the second inning before answering Madison Southern\u2019s three-run third with two runs of its own in the bottom half. The Lady Cardinals then took control for good with one run in the fourth and three more in the fifth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Messer led the way at the plate, finishing with two hits, two RBI and a home run while Williams added two hits (one was a home run) and two RBI, and Rice connected with a home run and drove in a run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morgan Jackson also played a key role, scoring two runs, collecting a hit and driving in a run while Ryleigh Bretz added a hit, a run scored and an RBI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Messer picked up the win, going the distance while allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
