<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"MANCHESTER \u2014 North Laurel High School made it a complete sweep at the 10th Region Boys\u2019 and Girls\u2019 Archery Tournaments this past weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
North Laurel\u2019s girls\u2019 team captured the region title with a score of 1,908, and an X-count of 83 while the boys\u2019 team also won the region crown with a 1,974 score, and an X-count of 111.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It marked the third straight year the boys\u2019 team has captured the region championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUnless, I\u2019m badly mistaken, that\u2019s a first for NLHS Archery,\u201d North Laurel coach Jason Neal Ivey said. \u201cTo have both girls and boys teams as regional champions in the same year, is a huge deal in any sport, especially archery. Now we work towards the KHSAA State tournament, which is held on April 21. With a little more work and determination, we have as good a shot as anybody at becoming KHSAA state champions. That would be a first for NLHS archery. To be state champions is every archer\u2019s dream. But with the year we have had, it just might become reality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s always a great day to be a North Laurel Jaguar,\u201d he added. \u201cBut days like today, make it even more special. A head coach is only as good the assistants he has beside him or her. Here at North Laurel, we have the best. My respect and gratitude goes out to them. And to my archery parents who are always working behind the scenes, always lending support when needed, for the miles and hours spent driving to and from tournaments and practices, thank you. Thank you for everything you do that goes unnoticed. We could not do what we do without you. God bless you, each and everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the girls\u2019 side, Addison Metcalf led the Lady Jaguars with a fourth place effort, finishing with a score of 286. Annabelle Green (fifth, 282), Sadie Johnson (sixth, 280), Leilani Goldsberry (12th, 270), Kaley Martin (13th, 267), Caylee Bowman (17th, 263), Khloe Robinson (21st, 260), Chloe Mills (24th, 259), Anabel Farmer (27th, 254), Brindalyn Fawbush (28th, 252), Natalie Collett (34th, 250), Malorie House (53rd 168).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the boys\u2019 side, Reece Frazier finished second with a score of 289 while Gunner Cory (fifth, 289), Elijah Ivey (sixth, 285), Kaden Helton (12th, 279), Zachary Reynolds (13th, 278), Konnor Kilburn (14th, 277), Noah Elza (19th, 277), Douglas Estep (27th, 274), Zachary Adams (31st, 271), Joseph Gibson (35th, 268), Matthew Houston (63rd, 254), Luke Hampton (83rd, 247).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a great honor to coach the North Laurel High School Archery team,\u201d Ivey said. \u201cI\u2019ve helped coach most of these archers for years. Some for the last eight years, since they were in fourth grade at Bush Elementary. Archery is almost a year-round season. With tryouts beginning in late October to the NASP World Tournament being held in early June every year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo basically you only have three months as an offseason,\u201d he added. \u201cYou spend that much time with a group of young men and women, you become family. It\u2019s more than just a coach and archer, it\u2019s a bond that is forged in trials and triumphs. This year has been more triumphant than trials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
