For the third straight game, Colonels coach Jeremy Shope received solid efforts from the plate and on the mound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTwo good wins today,\u201d he said. \u201cKip and Christian pitched really well in game one, only allowing one run against Somerset. Offensively, we swung the bats really well. Double digit hits in a five-inning game. We ran the bases really well also \u2014 great team effort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGame two we, came out and put up a nine-run first inning,\u201d he added. \u201cWe again did some damage at the plate. Big hits in the right spots. Looking forward to watching this team get better. We were able to use several arms today and only gave up two runs in two games. We played excellent defense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Game One<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whitley County 11, Somerset 1<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Luke Hillard turned in a standout performance Saturday, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and a triple to lead Whitley County to an 11-1 win over Somerset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Colonels (2-0) broke the game open with a five-run third inning before adding three runs in both the fourth and fifth to pull away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whitley County finished with 11 runs on 10 hits in a balanced effort at the plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ethan Allen added two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI while Shane Parker chipped in two hits and two RBI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Caden Mountjoy and Cooper Parman each recorded a hit and scored twice, helping keep pressure on Somerset throughout the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the mound, Kip Allen earned the win, tossing four innings while allowing just two hits and one run with five strikeouts. Carson Wilson closed things out with a scoreless inning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Game Two<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whitley County 11, Tates Creek 1<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whitley County erupted for nine runs in the opening inning and never looked back, rolling to an 11-1 win over Tates Creek in five innings on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Colonels\u2019 (3-0) Ethan Allen led the offensive charge with a huge performance, driving in four runs while scoring twice. Henry Bowling added a pair of RBI, and Luke Hillard finished with two hits and two RBI. Dalton Parker scored twice and added a hit, while Caleb Parman chipped in with an RBI as Whitley County totaled 11 runs on six hits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
