The losses dropped Corbin to 1-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe had a couple of great games today against a really good Henry Clay team,\u201d Stidham said. \u201cAgain, I will say I am really excited moving forward with my team. We came short a little bit in both games, but man did we really work, and never gave up and I look forward to growing. I was able to pitch all of my girls. We had a few missteps on defense that costed us a few runs in both games, but my girls came ready to hit the ball today. They were more poised at the plate and we had some really great hits and earned runs in both games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have a really young team full of talent with only four upper classmen so it makes it really exciting,\u201d she added. \u201cJust watching them learn and grow together game after game already. Mikaila Hopkins went yard today with her very first home run. She was seeing the ball so well. She had several hits for us and did her job as our lead off. Apple Terrell, Macie Santos, and Sawyer Stamper pitched great today for us. That\u2019s an eighth grader, a freshman, and a sophomore pitching lineup. We just have to work and get behind them like we need to and it will happen because these girls they have a drive to want to win and they don\u2019t give up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur older girls, Chloe Bays, Lydia King, and Kaili Sanders each came up with big hits that we needed and they played well on defense,\u201d Stidham continued. \u201cJust a few plays one way or the other and it\u2019s totally different ball games and the outcome is on our side. I told our girls to stay the course and we will, and these wins will become ours as the season progresses and we continue to find our rhythm as a team. Game One<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Henry Clay 10, Corbin 8<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Corbin\u2019s rally in its first game against Henry Clay, came up just short Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite pounding out 14 hits and battling back late, the Lady Redhounds dropped a 10-8 decision to the Lady Blue Devils, falling to 1-2 on the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Corbin stayed within striking distance throughout the contest, answering Henry Clay\u2019s early runs with steady production at the plate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Lady Redhounds pushed across runs in the third and fourth innings before adding two more in the fifth, cutting their deficit to 6-4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Henry Clay scored four runs in the top of the sixth to push its lead to 10-5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But Corbin refused to go away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Lady Redhounds put together a late rally, scoring three runs in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to two, but couldn\u2019t complete the comeback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Offensively, Corbin was led by Apple Terrell, who turned in a big performance with three hits and three RBIs. Mikaila Hopkins also delivered a strong outing, finishing with two hits, including a home run while driving in two runs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cami Price added two hits and a run scored, while Lydia King crossed the plate twice and drove in a run as Corbin continued to find success at the plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the circle, Terrell worked five innings, striking out five,l while Sawyer Stamper provided two scoreless innings of relief. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Game Two<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Henry Clay 8, Corbin 5<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Henry Clay used a big sixth inning to break open a tight game and defeat Corbin, 8-5, on Saturday, handing the Lady Redhounds their second loss of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Corbin (1-2) battled throughout and was tied at four apiece midway through the game after scoring twice in the third and adding two more in the fifth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the Lady Blue Devils responded with four runs in the sixth to take control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Lady Redhounds finished with eight hits in the loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mikaela Hopkins led the way offensively, going 2-for-4, while Lydia King added two hits and scored a run. Chloe Bays delivered an RBI, and Landry Gentry also drove in a run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sawyer Stamper added a pair of hits, helping Corbin stay in front early before Henry Clay\u2019s late rally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
