CORBIN \u2014 Tod Windlan\u2019s South Laurel Lady Cardinals capped off a perfect 6-0 50th District slate thanks to a 53-47 win over Corbin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Laurel (20-6) took the lead in the second quarter, but had to hold off a late rally from the Lady Redhounds, who are now 12-10, and 3-3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Cardinals\u2019 win streak now stands at five games over Isaac Wilson\u2019s squad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tough 50th District road victory and happy to say we have been undefeated in 50th District play for the last two years, and it is one of the toughest districts in the state,\u201d Windlan said. \u201cCorbin competed very well and our first quarter was one of the worst we have played since I became coach and our play tonight is on me and it will be corrected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGetting the win was one of the few bright spots, but it’s the only thing that truly matters as any win is a good win,\u201d he added. \u201cThought Kenzie Fannin gave us a big lift off the bench scoring 11 points. Maci Messer had 14, Skeeter Mabe 12, Callie Jones and Ryleigh Bretz had eight apiece. Next game is Tuesday, February 17 at home versus Russell County. Go Cards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Corbin jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first quarter behind a 3-pointer from Addy Wilson, but a 22-point second quarter allowed South Laurel to take a slim 26-24 edge into the locker room at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two 3-pointers by eighth grader McKenzie Fannin allowed the Lady Cardinals to take a 42-33 edge into the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Laurel\u2019s Skeeter Mabe sealed the deal down the stretch, hitting 7-of-10 free throw attempts in the game\u2019s final eight minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maci Messer led the Lady Cardinals with 14 points while Mabe had 12 points, and Fannin finished with 11 points. Callie Jones, and Ryleigh Bretz both scored eight points apiece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aubree Clemens led the Lady Redhounds with 11 points while Lynlee Pietrowski followed with nine points. Kalley Stewart and Lydia King both chipped in seven points apiece. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
