WILLIAMSBURG \u2014 Another impressive effort from Maddy Hopkins, combined with stellar efforts from Aubrey Fore and Jaylee Cox helped Whitley County had Williamsburg a 53-28 loss on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hopkins led the way with 23 points while Fore and Cox added 10 points apiece. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The win improved Whitley County to 9-10 overall, and 2-2 in 50th District play while the Lady Yellow Jackets are now 5-9, and 0-4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is always good to get a district win,\u201d Whitley County coach Ronnie Collier said. \u201cWe were relatively balanced offensively with Maddy leading us with 23 points. Aubree and Jaylee also had nice games with 10 points each. Hopefully, the weather improves and we can get some practices in before a big district matchup with Corbin on Tuesday. Go Colonels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Colonels took control of the game early as Hopkins\u2019 eight first-quarter points helped her team grab a 17-8 edge entering the second quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added seven more points in the second quarter while Cox chipped in five points, giving Whitley County a 33-15 lead at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Colonels limited Williamsburg to only two points in the third quarter while using a 15-2 run to out the game away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Braylee Evans led the Lady Yellow Jackets with 12 points while Abby Moses added nine points. Moses also grabbed her 500th career rebound in the win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBraylee and Moe once again did a great job leading tonight, both with their leadership and their overall play,\u201d she added. \u201cTia Brown really stepped out of her shell and made some great plays that helped our team. Marissa Meadors and Sammie Phippscontinue to grow, and I\u2019d love to see them be more aggressive and shoot the ball with confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe definitely missed Ellie Breeding while she was out recovering, so it was great to have her back on the court tonight, even though she\u2019s still not quite at 100 percent,\u201d Douglas continued. \u201cEvery game is an opportunity to grow, and our girls are staying positive, becoming more aware, and holding themselves accountable for improving their individual games to better the team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
