The win improves the Lady Jaguars to 10-3 overall and 1-0 against district opponents, extending their remarkable district winning streak to 55 consecutive games. Clay County fell to 7-7 overall and 0-1 in district play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
North Laurel established control early, taking a 20-14 lead after the first quarter and extending the margin to 37-24 at halftime. The Lady Jaguars put the game out of reach in the third quarter, building a commanding 58-32 advantage entering the final period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mariella Claybrook delivered a dominant performance to lead North Laurel, finishing with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks. Eden Begley provided a key spark off the bench, scoring 14 points while hitting 4-of-6 from three-point range. Laylee Phillips added 13 points and five rebounds while knocking down 2-of-3 attempts from beyond the arc. Haley Combs contributed four points, six assists, and four steals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
North Laurel shot well throughout the game, connecting on 28-of-49 shots from the floor, including an impressive 10-of-17 from 3-point range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the win, North Laurel coach Eddie Mahan said there were still areas his team must improve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDistrict wins carry a different weight, and they always sit at the top of our priority list,\u201d he said. \u201cWe understand how important those games are, and because of that, the expectations are higher across the board. Tonight, I don\u2019t think we opened the game with the defensive intensity or urgency that a district matchup demands. We also didn\u2019t do a great job making in-game adjustments, and that\u2019s something that starts with me and has to be better moving forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOver the last few weeks, Mariella has continued to show exactly why she\u2019s considered one of the best players in the state,\u201d he added. \u201cHer consistency, poise, and ability to impact the game in multiple ways have been evident night after night. That said, the spark that really lifted us tonight came from Eden Begley. Coming off the bench, she gave us exactly what you hope for \u2014 effort, toughness, and production on both ends of the floor. She defended, played unselfishly, and brought energy that was contagious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEvery player in our locker room loves Eden, and when someone like that steps up and has success, it raises the level of the entire team,\u201d Mahan continued. \u201cYou could feel the momentum shift when she was on the floor, and that boost in energy carried over to everyone else. Performances like that remind you how important depth, chemistry, and selfless play are, especially in district games where every possession matters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clay County was led by Maci White, who scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds. Lauryn Sizemore added 12 points, while Anna Samples finished with 10 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
