Lopez entered the KHSAA Girls\u2019 Singles State Tournament as a No. 2 seed while Jones and Morton also earned a No. 2 seed in the doubles state tourney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lopez won her match 6-0, 6-0 over Maggie Schommer from Danville while Morton\/Jones won 6-0, 6-0 over Sarah Combs\/Kate Gasser from Harrison County<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis has been such a big year for Corbin Girls Tennis coming off a team state runner-up finish last year,\u201d Corbin coach Chris Jones said. \u201cWe\u2019ve been building on such a strong legacy, but this year we\u2019ve really taken it to the next level. The girls have never had anyone higher than a three seed and now this year we have eighth grader Isabella Lopez as the two seed in singles and seniors Katie Morton and Lindsay Jones as the two seed in doubles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m so proud of Bella,\u201d he added. \u201cShe works so hard year round and to be ranked second in the state among high schoolers is such a phenomenal accomplishment for someone that just finished up middle school. Bella has a huge game and we can\u2019t wait to see how well this tournament goes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLindsay and Katie have been playing together for so long,\u201d Jones continued. \u201cIt\u2019s a great example of how consistent hard work over the course of many years has finally paid off with a two seed in the state tournament. We\u2019re so excited for our seniors to make a deep run into this tournament as they cap off very successful tennis career at Corbin High School.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
