The Whitley County Colonels have had a standout season, suffering just four losses only one of which came in regional play, a loss to Corbin the day after beating them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dee Parker has been a very important piece to this team. He is a key player both in the batter’s box and the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parker has compiled an impressive batting average of .413 and has 26 hits on the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parker not only excels on the diamond but also on the football field and basketball court. Being a three sport athlete allows him to be well rounded and develop a competitive edge, leadership skills and the physical versatility that sets him apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBeing a three-sport athlete gives me the opportunity to train in several sports which has led me to being able to stay in shape year round, keeps me mentally prepared for whatever is thrown at me, and helps me to adjust to wins and losses not only in sports but in life,\u201d Parker said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just two seasons ago, the Colonels took home the state title and they are certainly hoping to do it again. They recently clinched the one seed in their district and will play Williamsburg in the first round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parker said, \u201cMy team goal is win region and make it to the state tournament. I\u2019m excited to see how our full potential as a team will unfold.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parker, along with many other Colonels take immense pride in wearing the red and black. They understand the legacy they are a part of and embrace the responsibility of continuing the tradition and playing each game with heart and a deep sense of school pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBeing a Colonel means everything to me. From our past Colonels to our present and future Colonels, Whitley County is family,\u201d Parker said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whitley County came out on top in both games against South Laurel this season, however both were close and one even went an extra inning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parker said, \u201cThe most intense game was South Laurel both times we played them. I stayed calm and just played my game as my team did their thing as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One thing that Whitley County has that is vital to success is their team chemistry. The players have developed a deep bond both on and off the field allowing them to work well together and maintain a united focus on their common goal which is to make it back to the State Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur team chemistry is good and is getting better as the season continues,\u201d Parker said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
