LONDON \u2014 South Laurel recorded its first regular season sweep of 50th District rival Corbin since 2015 on Wednesday, defeating the Redhounds, 8-4.
Corbin led 3-1 entering the bottom of the second before the Cardinals answered with three runs while adding two runs in the bottom of the third and two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Waylon Hensley led the way with a 2-for-2 effort while driving in two runs. Austin Byrd had a hit, an RBI and three runs scored while Vince Sizemore finished with a hit and an RBI. Kamdin Dewees had a hit, an RBI, and a run scored while Jack Vaughn drove in a run. Reece Noble had a hit and scored twice while Keaton Creech finished with a hit. Will Alsip and Bryson Turner each scored a run apiece.
Keaton Smith got the win, tossing 5.1 innings while allowing six hits and four runs. He struck out two batters. Creech recorded the save, pitching 1.2 innings. He held Corbin to no runs and hits while striking out a batter.
Trey Person led the Redhounds with a 3-for-3 effort while driving in two runs. Kade Elam connected with a home run, finishing with two RBI, and a run scored. Noah Cima and Levi Brock also had hit for Corbin.
Ethan Abner took the loss on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while allowing four hits and two earned runs. He struck out a batter.
The win improved South Laurel to 16-5 and 4-2 against 50th District foes while the Redhounds dropped to 13-11, and 3-3. The Cardinals will be the two seed while Corbin will be the three seed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
