<\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"LONDON \u2014 After almost picking up their biggest win of the season just a day before against No. 2 ranked Great Crossing, the South Laurel Cardinals (18-8) responded in a big way with an impressive 70-65 win over Jeffersontown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Led by Jordan Mabe\u2019s 32-point scoring effort, the Cardinals hit 12-of-15 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter to seal the five-point victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe did a great job of grinding out a great win versus a really good team,\u201d South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said. \u201cThey are very athletic and they shoot the lights out of it. We needed guys to step up and we got that when we needed it most. Really proud of this bunch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jeffersontown led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter but eight points by Mabe and two 3-pointers by Colton Rawlings gave South Laurel a 31-28 advantage at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mabe added nine more points in the third quarter while Kaiden McQueen scored four points and Rawlings hit another 3-pointer, pushing the Cardinals\u2019 advantage to 49-44 with eight minutes left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mabe and Rawlings each scored eight points apiece in the fourth quarter while Josh Steele, who made his return from an injury he sustained against Clay County, scored all four of his points during the period as South Laurel pulled away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
