MOUNT STERLING \u2014 Regardless of the adversity the North Laurel Jaguars have encountered this season, they have consistently found a way to persevere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was no different Friday during the Jaguars\u2019 Class 5A first round playoff matchup against Montgomery County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steven Nelson\u2019s squad was staring at a 17-14 deficit in overtime but it didn\u2019t seem to phase them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Laurel (5-6) responded in a big way as Jude McWhorter\u2019s seven-yard touchdown pass to Carter Kelley sealed a 20-17 victory for North Laurel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McWhorter threw two touchdown passes in the win, both to Kelley, while Bryson Nantz added a rushing touchdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jaguars will now get a change to avenge an earlier, 23-14, loss to Southwestern during second round action Friday on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Warriors cruised in their opening round matchup against East Jessamine with a 42-0 win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVery proud of all these kids,\u201d Nelson said. \u201cThey came out and played hard and had calls not going our way. We never quit fighting and the kids absolutely believed they could win this game. I love this group of guys and the energy they are bringing every week. They have overcame a lot of adversity and they believe they can win.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
