LONDON \u2014 South Laurel had hopes of wrapping up its respective district\u2019s No. 2 seed, but Southwestern had other plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cardinals dropped their 18th straight game to the Warriors while being shutout for the first time since Sept. 19, 2023, losing to Southwestern, 28-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Laurel (5-3 overall, 2-2 vs. district opponents) just couldn\u2019t get anything going offensively while Southwestern (4-4, 3-0) built a 21-0 lead in the first half and never looked back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very disappointing loss for the Cardinals tonight,\u201d South Laurel coach John Hines said. \u201cWe didn\u2019t execute very well. We didn\u2019t play fundamental football very well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have to get our heads up and get back to work next week to improve,\u201d he added. \u201cWe can\u2019t let this loss wreck our season. There\u2019s too much potential here yet to achieve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The game was scoreless for a quarter until the Warriors\u2019 Braxton Walters recorded a rushing touchdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walters\u2019 second rushing touchdown pushed his team\u2019s lead to 14-0 while his third rushing touchdown gave his team a 21-0 cushion at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elijah Ray put the finishing touches on the win with a rushing touchdown at the 5:09 mark of the fourth quarter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cardinals\u2019 next game isn\u2019t scheduled until Nov. 1 at home against Harlan, according to the KHSAA website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
