WILLIAMSBURG \u2014 David Halcomb\u2019s Whitley County Lady Colonels let it be known Monday the road to the 13th Region championship still leads through Whitley County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two-time defending 13th Region champion Lady Colonels stunned Corbin by sweeping the match in three sets, 25-22, 25-22, and 25-16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was a big win for our team,\u201d Halcomb said. \u201cI have said all along that this team has tons of potential and it is starting to show. We have a very talented group and we\u2019ve just tried to instill all kinds of confidence in them and they are now believing in themselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is just one match and we are really excited to win this one for sure because a lot of folks didn\u2019t they we could, but our staff and players did,\u201d he added. \u201cCan\u2019t say enough about our girls tonight \u2014 played lights out and showed so much mental toughness. We had a great crowd too and I appreciate all those who came out to cheer us on. Go Colonels!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three-set loss turns out to be Corbin\u2019s first against 13th Region and 50th District teams with both Whitley County and the Lady Redhounds now have identical 5-1 district records with Corbin winning the two teams\u2019 first district match on Oct. 3, 3-2. The Lady Redhounds also defeated the Lady Colonels, 2-0, in the finals of the Class 2A, Section 7 finals on Aug. 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But things were different Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whitley County edged out Corbin in the first two sets with identical 25-22 scores before putting the match away with a 25-16 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Colonels are now 20-7 while the Lady Redhounds fall to 23-6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
