John Hines\u2019 squad went on the road, and picked up a huge district win, defeating Harlan County, 29-15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are proud of our team effort,\u201d Hines said. \u201cThe players played hard, with great intensity and never quit. We made a lot of mistakes, especially early in the game, but the players are learning to play hard and believe in each other. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is a great win for our team for our program for our school and everybody involved with South Laurel football,\u201d he added. \u201cWe\u2019re excited about being in the playoff picture at the end of the season. Especially proud of our coaching staff. They put together great game plans, and coached the kids through the week with a lot of positive energy. We feel like our team is getting better each and every week.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cardinals (5-2 overall, 2-1 vs. district opponents) fought back from an 8-0 deficit to take a 15-8 lead into the locker room at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They were able to extend their lead to 22-8 before the Black Bears answered with a touchdown to cut their deficit to 22-15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Laurel out the finishing touches on its win late in the game, pulling off the 14-point victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
