HYDEN \u2014 The Whitley County Lady Colonels endured a three-set thriller on Tuesday, picking up a hardfought 25-21, 28-26, 26-25 win over Leslie County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Colonels entered the game knowing the Lady Eagles would out up a fight, and managed to battle through the match to secure the win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halcomb\u2019s squad improved to 10-4 with the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cReally proud of our team. I thought we played well considering we hadn\u2019t played in a week,\u201d Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. \u201cWe have had really good practices leading up to this \u2014 my coaching staff has done a great job. \u201cLeslie County has a very good team, had a big crowd, with a loud student section,\u201d he added. \u201cTo be able to come into an environment like that and play well is big for our team. We squandered a lead in the second set and our backs were against the wall \u2014 had match point against us a couple times. Our girls didn\u2019t panic and just made plays when they had to. Experiences like this are invaluable for this team. I see improvement and that\u2019s good. I\u2019m also very pleased with the progress of our freshmen and JV teams who also picked up wins tonight. We can build off of this night.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whitley County will host South Laurel on Thursday before gearing up for a tough round of games next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Colonels will host North Laurel before hitting the road to play Wayne County and Williamsburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
