Corbin defeated Elizabethtown, 3-2, in first round action before falling in quarterfinal play to Covington Catholic, 3-0.
\u201cWe were so happy to pick up the first round win today moving us into the quarterfinals of the team state tournament,\u201d Maguet said. \u201cJohn Ball and Tanner Marcum got our first point of the three in one doubles. They played good tennis to set the tone. Jake Frazier and Connor Middleton picked up our second point in two doubles. They played awesome today. These two have been playing together almost all year and have gelled extremely well.
\u201cAfter losing the next two points with Nate Hill and JP Carmichael, it left number one singles up to Quinn Maguet and he delivered the knockout punch with a 6-3, 6-2 victory to secure the win,\u201d he added. \u201cWe are certainly happy to be one of the top 8 teams still playing but the daunting task is real as we move on to play the defending state champs and this year\u2019s favorite in Cov. Cath. \u201cAll I can say is going in is we had nothing to lose, so we played as relaxed as I\u2019ve seen all year in big matches but came up short losing, 3-0.
\u201cThis team is so deep from one through seven,\u201d Maguet continued. \u201cWhen you get to this point in the state tournament, every team is really good but Cov. Cath stands alone, really. If you\u2019re going to lose, it\u2019s certainly no shame to get beat by the best team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
