WILLIAMSBURG \u2014 Jeremy Shope\u2019s Whitley County Colonels knew what was at stake heading into Tuesday\u2019s 50th District matchup with South Laurel \u2014 a win assures them the No. 1 seed in the district tournament, and a loss would put them in a three-way tie for the No. 1 seed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After falling to the Cardinals on Monday, Whitley County answered the call, defeating South Laurel, 11-3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The win improved Shope\u2019s squad to 16-8 while<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving them to 5-1 in district play while assuring them the top seed. They\u2019ll play No. 4 seed Williamsburg while Corbin locked up the No. 2 seed and South Laurel will be the No. 3 seed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cProud of our guys in how we responded today,\u201d Shope said. \u201cHad a tough night last night at the plate. We came out and put up four runs in the first and five in the fifth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Colonels got the job hitting the ball while EJ Allen continued to impress on the mound, limiting the Cardinals to only three hits and no earned runs during his five innings of work. he also struck out four batters. Trey Walton pitched the final two innings, allowing three hits, no earned runs while striking out two batters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEJ had a great start,\u201d Shope said. \u201cGave us five good innings and Trey came in and finished. Good team win with the whole team doing something for us offensively.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the plate, Matthew Wright went 3-for-4 with three RBI while Hunter Wilson had two hits and three RBI. Allen had a hit, an RBI, and three runs scored while Ronald Osborne finished with a hit, three RBI, and one run scored. Chris Cureton finished with two hits while Bryce Anderson had a hit and scored twice. Tyler Rose had a hit and Dee Parker finished with an RBI, and a run scored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hunter Bundy led South Laurel (15-9, 3-3) with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored while Vince Sizemore had two hits and an RBI. Keaton Creech drove in a run while Jack Vaughn and Reece Noble had a hit apiece. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
