LONDON \u2014 After starting the season with 10 road games, the North Laurel Jaguars played its first game on the new turf at Alumni Field, and came away with an impressive 6-1 win over Knox Central on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jaguars received a stellar effort on the mound from Andrew Cupp, who pitched a complete game, scattering six hits, and giving up a run while striking out three batters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cameron Smith came up big at the plate for North Laurel, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBI while  Cooper Elza was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and a run scored. J. Douglas Gilliam finished 2-for-3 with a run scored while Carter Kelley provided a hit, an RBI, and a run scored. Elizabeth Holt had a hit while Cooper Parman and Jude McWhorter scored one time apiece. Cam Hinkle finished with an RBI. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAndrew Cupp pitched a complete game to pick up the win and threw a heck of a game,\u201d North Laurel coach Darren McWhorter said. \u201cWe played well defensively and had some quality at-bats. Our guys are starting to get big hits with guys in scoring position which has been one of our problems this season.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are a very young team \u2014 two seniors and no juniors, and haven’t had a field to practice on.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So after a few games under our belt, we are showing improvement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jaguars fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning before taking a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning. North Laurel added another two more runs in the third inning while pushing across an insurance run in the sixth inning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Davis led Knox Central with two hits and an RBI while Hayden Melton finished with a hit and a run scored. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
