CORBIN \u2014 What a way to end a three-game losing skid for Tony Pietrowski\u2019s Corbin Redhounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Needing a win in the worst way, Corbin got it on Tuesday, limiting South Laurel to a series-low 29 points during the Redhounds\u2019 54-29 win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 25-point victory marked the first time since 2018 Corbin has defeated South Laurel in consecutive games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s even more important is the Redhounds moved one step closer to grabbing the 50th District\u2019s top seed. Corbin is now 13-7 overall and 4-1 against 50th District opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A win over Whitley County will assure the Redhounds\u2019 the district\u2019s top spot in a winner take all matchup on Friday at Whitley County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two teams met on Jan. 26 with the Colonels coming away with a 46-45 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cProud of my guys,\u201d Pietrowski said. \u201cWe have had a rough stretch of play and I was anxious to see how we would respond tonight. We bought in defensively and rebounded it well. Eli (Pietrowski), Zander (Curry), and Trey (Worley) played at a high level this evening. All three were impressive in all facets of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThought Lucas and Ryder did a great job tonight,\u201d he added. \u201cBoth are young but that didn\u2019t show tonight. They were great defenders and helped facilitate our offense. I have a lot of respect for Jeff (Davis) and his program. We know they will continue to improve, we have to do the same. Plenty of room for improvement and I expect us to continue to grind and become the best team we can be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Against South Laurel, Corbin took a 10-6 lead before taking a 26-22 edge into the locker room at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Redhounds picked things up offensively in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals, 28-7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Laurel only managed to hit three field goals during the game\u2019s final 16 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trey Worley led Corbin with 18 points while Eli Pietrowski added 15 points. Ryder Akins and Zander Curry each added seven points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colton Rawlings led the Cardinals with 14 points while hitting four 3-pointers. Josh Steele followed with four points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The loss dropped South Laurel to 12-8 overall and 2-3 against 50th District opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGive Corbin credit they were just more physical than us and killed us on the boards,\u201d South Laurel coach Jeff Davis said. \u201cI know this group will keep working and try to get better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
