\ufeffThe Whitley County Lady Colonels improved to 5-0 after going through a tough slate this past week which included capturing the Class 2A, Section 7 championship on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA great day for our volleyball program,\u201d Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. \u201cI thought we played consistently well all day, except for a span in the middle of the second set in the championship. \u201cOur girls have worked extremely hard for this and our coaching staff has challenged them with some new things offensively,\u201d he added. \u201cIt is starting to click with them and I think we can and will just keep getting better. Our serving was much better today, in comparison to our first two matches. We had limited service errors all day and that made a big difference for us. Our girls have a tremendous amount of heart and it showed again this afternoon after dropping that second set against Corbin. They kept their composure and played lights out the 3rd set to seal the win.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Colonels defeated McCreary Central, and Perry Central before knocking off rival Corbin in the finals in three sets, 25-16, 16-25, and 25-16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whitley County defeated McCreary Central, 25-14, 25-17, before rolling past Perry Central, 25-15, 25-13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m so proud of our kids,\u201d Halcomb said. \u201cThey are wonderful young ladies and are deserving of this championship.\u201d We are excited to be able to represent this area in the 2A State Tournament in a few weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Redhounds (3-2) picked up wins over Clay County, and Bell County in the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Corbin will be back in action Monday on the road against Bell County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Colonels will be back in action at home Monday against Knox Central.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
