They made another statement on Monday, knocking off 13th Region favorite Corbin, 67-66, in a 50th District battle at the Cardinals\u2019 Nest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Lady Cardinals (11-6 overall, 1-0 vs. 50th District opponents) led throughout the game and held on in the end to pick up a one point win over the struggling Lady Redhounds (9-7, 0-1 vs. 50th District opponents), who have now lost five games in a row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just a gutsy great win for our team. I can\u2019t say enough how proud I am of them. Every single kid that played contributed in some way. We told them at half that Corbin is a veteran team and will come after you. That\u2019s exactly what happened. They cut our 8pt lead to tie pretty quickly. That\u2019s what was impressive to me was this bunch just keeps working. Skeeter was dominant tonight but one of our kids that never gets enough credit is Aubrey Bundy. She does so many things that go unnoticed by most. Shelbie got in early foul trouble be she got in attack mode in the second half. Maci and Callie Jones hit huge 3s at different points of the game. Then Jamie has had her second straight double\/double. Like I said everyone including Syd makes a crucial deep pass to Aubrey.
We still made way too many turnovers but our kids did what they had to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Laurel built an 18-12 lead in the first quarter, and push its advantage to 35-27 at halftime. The Lady Redhounds cut their deficit to 48-46 entering the fourth quarter before the Lady Cardinals did just enough to snap a four-game losing skid to Corbin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Skeeter Made led South Laurel with 25 points while hitting 7-of-10 shot attempts from the free-throw line. She also hit two 3-pointers. Shelbie Mills followed with 13 points while Maci Messer hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Jamie Buenaventura also scored in doubles figures with 10 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
