WILLIAMSBURG \u2014 The Whitley County Colonels have a shot to host a home playoff game if they can defeat Letcher Central (4-4 overall, 2-2 vs. district opponents) on Friday.
The Colonels (5-3, 1-1) are coming off a 49-0 loss to Corbin, but has hopes their fortune will change this week.\u00a0
\u201cOur team has played with great effort all year, and a lot of that is due to the seniors on our team who are determined to finish better than they started. They are a special group,\u201d Rhymer said.
\u201cOur team is very competitive and they have proved that every week. The game last week will help us in the future. We know where we are trying to get to and we just have to keep working and trusting the process.
\u201cThis is a big week for us and our goal is to have the best week of practice that we’ve had all year,\u201d he added. \u201cWe have several goals as a team that are obtainable. It will be exciting to prepare this week and play in front of our home crowd and community.\u201d
The key to success against the Colonels could very well be having a good start on both sides of the ball.\u00a0
\u201cWe challenge our team each week to start fast and compete from the first snap,\u201d Rhymer said. \u201cIt will be important for us to get off to a great start in all three phases of the game in order to have the success we want.
\u201cLetcher is a well-coached team and they have built a solid program,\u201d he added. \u201cThey play hard and are a physical team. They have a strong run game and do a good job defending the run. We will have to be solid up front on both sides of the ball and protect the ball.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
