{"id":16590,"date":"2023-09-28T22:20:24","date_gmt":"2023-09-29T02:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.13thregionmedianetwork.com\/?p=16590"},"modified":"2023-09-28T22:20:27","modified_gmt":"2023-09-29T02:20:27","slug":"whitley-county-knocks-off-corbin-for-the-third-time-this-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.13thregionmedianetwork.com\/?p=16590","title":{"rendered":"Whitley County knocks off Corbin for the third time this season\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>WILLIAMSBURG \u2014 For the second time in as many years, the Whitley County volleyball team has recorded three wins in a season against 50th District rival Corbin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It marks only the third time in program history the Lady Colonels have accomplished the feat. They also beat the Lady Redhounds three times in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During Thursday\u2019s win, Whitley County dropped the first set before reeling off winning three sets in a row.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The win improved Whitley County to 23-2 overall, 12-0 against 13th Region teams and a 6-0 mark against district opponents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnother big night for Lady Colonel Volleyball with all three teams picking up convincing wins over Corbin,\u201d Halcomb said. \u201cWe have a great team culture here and I think that shows. The experience and level of play from our upperclassmen has set the example for our talented younger players. It\u2019s an exciting thing to be a part of, it really is. I think we came ready to play and started off really well, but Corbin had a lot of energy and we started playing a little hesitant and cost us the first set. Our girls came out on fire in the second and third sets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJust a great display of volleyball,\u201d he added. \u201cI\u2019m just as pleased with how we maintained our composure in the fourth set and made a great comeback to seal the win. Our serving was really good all night and defense was superb. One of my goals for this team was to be the number one seed in the 50th District tournament and it\u2019s another goal we can check off our list.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After dropping an 18-25 loss to Corbin (16-6) in the first set, the Lady Colonels rallied behind solid fan support and picked up wins of 25-11, 25-11, and 25-18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m glad we had a great crowd tonight to witness how good of a volleyball team we have \u2014 special group of young ladies,\u201d Halcomb said. \u201cWe now have a week until our next match at South and we will work to keep getting better. Thanks to all our fans for coming out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whitley County will be back in action Thursday against South Laurel while Corbin is off until October 9 when the Lady Redhounds play North
