WILLIAMSBURG \u2014 After coming up one win short of capturing the First Priority Lady Colonels Volleyball Classic this past weekend, Whitley County made quick work of North Laurel on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Colonels (22-2) cruised to a three-set sweep of the Lady Jaguars, winning, 25-21, 25-20, and 25-13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cReally good night for our volleyball program,\u201d Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. \u201cAll three of our teams played well. I\u2019m super pleased with our freshmen and JV teams, played really solid volleyball. They keep getting better and better. The loss in the finals of our tournament on Saturday night didn\u2019t settle well with our kids. We talked through some things yesterday and had a really good practice. These girls are experienced and know what they have to do to be successful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think we came out with something to prove and I liked the mental focus we had going into tonight\u2019s match,\u201d he added. \u201cWe started a little slow and didn\u2019t play particularly well in the first set, but managed to pull out a tight win. Then we settled in the second and third sets \u2014 played really well. Our kids played hard tonight. We know North Laurel is a top team in our region and one we will probably see in the region tournament in a few weeks, so it was important for us to play well.  I\u2019m pleased with how we went about our business tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The loss dropped North Laurel to 13-13 overall while Whitley County remains unbeaten against regional opponents, improving to 11-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Colonels will now switch their focus to Thursday\u2019s big matchup with 50th District rival Corbin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two teams have met twice this season with Whitley County winning both matches. The Lady Colonels are winners of four straight against the Lady Redhounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Laurel will take a week off before hosting Somerset Christian Tuesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
