WILLIAMSBURG \u2014 Once again, the First Priority Lady Colonels Volleyball Classic had some of the state\u2019s finest volleyball teams participating in one of the best volleyball tournaments in the state this past weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Host Whitley County had hopes of bringing home the tournament title, but came up one win short of doing so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lady Colonels posted a 5-1 mark before falling to Pulaski County in the title game, 25-14, 25-22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whitley County\u2019s (21-2) five wins came against the same Pulaski County team that eventually won the title with the Lady Colonels picking up an earlier victory of 25-16, 25-20. Whitley County also defeated Adair County (25-20, 25-22), McCreary Central (25-10, 21-25, 15-8), Knott Central (25-11, 25-13), and Somerset (25-18, 25-15).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFirst, I just want to thank everyone involved in helping make our First Priority Volleyball Classic a success,\u201d Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. \u201cOur parents were outstanding in working and getting things done for us. Big thanks to our administration as well. Folks have no idea of the work that goes into something like this. We hosted 15 other teams and had 38 volleyball matches in about a 10-hour span. \u201cCongratulations to Pulaski County,\u201d he added. \u201cThey came out in the championship game and just outplayed us. They got us on our heels early and we played too hesitant. I thought if we could have pulled out that second set, our momentum would have carried us through. We just couldn\u2019t make it happen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI thought we played some really good volleyball in the semifinals against Knott County Central,\u201d Halcomb continued. \u201cTough match to lose in the championship of your own tournament, especially after beating them earlier in the morning. I think our kids are hurt by it \u2014 hope they are, I know I am. It\u2019s disappointing. We don\u2019t have time to feel sorry for ourselves. We big matches next week for us. We will regroup and be ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whitley County will be back in action Tuesday at home against North Laurel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
