WILLIAMSBURG \u2014 The defending 13th Region champion Whitley County Lady Colonels had their work cut out for them on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Williamsburg turned in one of its best efforts of the season, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in set play before the Lady Colonels rallied and won the final three sets to pull off the 3-2 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI thought we came out really flat which was very surprising to me,\u201d Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. \u201cWe had our best Monday practice we\u2019ve had all season yesterday, but just didn\u2019t play well to start. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been telling my team for two years that Williamsburg is a team to reckon with and they showed that tonight,\u201d he added. \u201cThey had just come off of playing some really good competition in the All \u2018A\u2019 tourney. Credit to them for coming out ready to play. Sometimes it\u2019s hard to get out of a funk when things aren\u2019t going your way out there, but we found a way to come together and turn it around to end up playing really good volleyball the last three sets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have to give a lot of credit to my assistant coaches tonight,\u201d Halcomb continued. \u201cWe don\u2019t win that match without the guidance and leadership of Heather Smith. She rallied our girls. I\u2019m proud of them for fighting. We will learn from it and a match like this will make us a better team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Williamsburg win the first set 25-23, and the second set 25-22, before the Lady Colonels rallied and won the final three sets, 25-10, 25-13, and 15-6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGreat match between two great teams,\u201d Williamsburg coach Dirk Berta said. \u201cOur girls played with great energy and enthusiasm. The girls played with confidence and had fun playing. That\u2019s what it will take to get to where we want to go. I believe it\u2019s only a matter of time before Williamsburg is making noise in the 50th District. We are looking forward to practice tomorrow and another match on Thursday. Go Jackets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
